Traditional Wellness and Cultural Support Program

Omushkego Ayihtiwin ᐅᒧᓑᑫᑯ ᐊᔨᐦᑎᐧᐃᐣ, the Traditional Wellness and Cultural Support Program, is dedicated to promoting and educating about healthy lifestyles through cultural and traditional practices.

Indigenous traditional wellness encompasses various aspects of health, including physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being, of which are interconnected. Neglecting any of these four can lead to imbalance and physical illness.

Our Traditional Practitioners are equipped with the knowledge and experience to utilize traditional medicines and ceremonies, helping individuals improve their overall health and support Indigenous communities in healing from the intergenerational impacts of colonization.

We offer:

  • Supportive Traditional Practitioners and Counsellors who provide traditional healing, counselling, cultural events, and spiritual services to the Indigenous peoples within the Mushkegowuk region

  • Promotion of culture, traditional methodology, health, and spiritual maintenance for a healthier lifestyle and to prevent illnesses

  • Advocacy on behalf of Mushkegowuk community members regarding equitable access to traditional healing, cultural, and health services

  • Traditional ceremonies, teachings and medicines

Services can be accessed by contacting the Mental Health and Wellness Manager, Lisa Wesley at 705-269-6662 or LisaWesley@mushkegowuk.ca
